Learn how to sing and play satisfaction by the rolling stones!! Rock out and bring out your inner vibe!!
Hey Everybody, this is Michelle Nipko of YourInnerVibe.com and today we will learn how to play and sing “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. It’s such a great song and really fun to sing and play, so, let’s get do it.
First of all, this song has two chords, E and A, how do you play those chords? Starting with the E, take your middle finger, put it on the 2nd fret, the 2nd string; Take your ring finger to the 2nd fret, the 3rd string; Your pointer finger and put it on the 1st fret on the 4th string. Now, with the E chord, we strum all the stings like this (Strumming). There you go, isn’t that pretty? It’s a really nice chord. So, the other chord for the song is A. That’s going to be all on the 2nd fret; Take your pointer finger and put it on the 3rd string down, then, just put your fingers down on the next several strings meaning, take your middle finger, put it on the 4th string down and your ring finger, put it on the 5th string down. For this chord, we don’t play this very top string, so you play like this (Strumming). A trick I like to use is to bring my thumb around and mute, mute by meaning barely touch the string, so when you barely touch it, it doesn’t play. Now you can strum a little crazy and that note doesn’t play.
Once again, the chords for this song are E and A, the strum pattern that we are going to use is pretty basic but we will start slow. It’s down, down, up, up , down, up, down, down , up, up, down, up, down, down, up..(Strumming). Alright, let’s try that going from E to the A and back and forth: down, down, up, up , down, up, down, down , up, up, down, up, A (Strumming continuous from E to A to E), alright! That’s the basics of this chord for this song. Let’s go ahead and talk about singing this song and this is really a fun song to sing, it’s all about attitude, right? It’s all about saying “I can’t get no satisfaction”, like I mean it, right? Think about something that you’re not happy about, something you’re pissed off about when you’re singing this song because it can really comes through to your listener. Let’s go and get started. So, start with the E down, down, up, up , down, up, down, down , up, up, down, A (Strumming continuous E, A chords) Sound familiar?
Alright, let’s go, here we go: “I can’t get no, Satisfaction” (Singing), that’s E and A, E (while strumming). Nice, great job! So, that’s the chorus and now we start in to the verse. It’s great about this verse is may jog to continuous to belt it. For a lot of songs, the singer gets a little quieter on the verse not make jog or not us, we’re going to have a lot of attitude and this song was about what’s going on society? I’m not happy with the guy on the radio trying to sell us and crap that we don’t need. I think we all feel that at some point, so, think about that when you sing this verse.
Here we go. “When I’m drivin’ in my car and that man comes on the radio he’s tellin’ me more and more about some useless information supposed to fire my imagination I can’t get no, oh no, no, no”(singing). Here, this point of the song, I like to do a little trick where I use the guitar as percussion. So, take your hand, your strumming hand and make it do a fist and just hit the guitar. That will add a little more flavor to the song, so let’s go and do it. I can’t get no, no, no, no. Nice, that’s really fun to sing.
The second verse, same thing, we’re not happy on what we are seeing on the TV, this guy is trying to tell me that my shirts are white and I’m smoking the wrong cigarettes and it’s just kind of pissing me off. Let’s feel that attitude when we sing the second verse, Here we go: “When I’m ridin’ in my car and that man comes on to tell me, how white my shirts can be but he can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke. The same cigarettes as me I can’t get no, oh no, no, no. Hey hey hey, that’s what I say”, back to the chorus. Once again, this chorus starts kind of soft, sexy, sultry the we build up and we belt it, so let’s really feel that from you (singing chorus part of satisfaction).
This third verse is about you know, let’s become that imaginary rock star where we are travelling around the world, we are signing this, we’re doing that, we’re trying to get some guy, some girl, can’t get them and we a little pissed off about it, so it’s really a problem to the rock star, so let’s pretend we’re rock stars and let’s feel this third verse: “When I’m travellin’ round the world and I’m doin’ this and I’m signing that and I’m tryin’ to make some guy who tells me baby baby come back later next week ’cause you see I’m on a losing streak I can’t get no, oh no, no, no, hey hey hey, that’s what I say”. Now, when it come to an end here, it’s really about giving it a strong finish, just letting people know I can’t get no satisfaction and I want you to know it and let’s hear it. The people will really remember the end of your song, so let’s make this memorable. (Singing ending).
Nice, great job! Isn’t it fun song to sing? So, this is Michelle Nipko helping you find Your Inner Vibe and today, I think we found it. Have a good day!
